Slowly, carousels disappeared from history-fires, floods, and auctions ended their twirling dance. Then war arrived and young men traded in the merry-go-round business for a khaki uniform and a gun. But, the wooden steeds galloped on. Carousel companies popped up in towns like Hornell, Lockport, and North Tonawanda, as well as in the bustling borough of Brooklyn. From the press release: The oldest log flume ride in the country will be the beneficiary of a multi-million dollar refurbishment and restoration project that will begin this January. Carousels weren't without controversy-from the band organ rendition of 'Arrah Wana' at the Valley in Syracuse to the Sunday operation of a carousel on Niagara Street in Buffalo, residents debated the 'questionable morals' of the carousel. The first crude carousels at Vauxhall Gardens and Jones Woods in New York City signaled a change of lifestyle, as amusement parks and resorts opened and flourished.
Their first installation was ‘El Aserradero’ (The Sawmill) which debuted at Six Flags Over Texas in 1963, and is still in operation today, with ‘The Mill Race’ following it only a few weeks later at Cedar Point. This book recalls both the popular and lesser known machines, including the bounding horses of Ontario Lake Park in Oswego McGregor Park in Glens Falls and Jollyland Park in Amsterdam. It wasn’t until the 1960’s that the modern log flume was truly perfected by a company called Arrow Development. Some of them were well known, others are part legend and part mystery.

The first log flume ride ever created, El Aserradero has been delighting guests since its introduction to the Mexico & Spain area in 1963. El Aserradero The Sawmill in Spanish or simply the log ride as it’s known to most guests and employees is one of the oldest and most historically significant rides at Six Flags over Texas. In 2015 Kings Dominion rebranded its Waterpark to Soak City and added a new Mega Slide Complex, Hurricane Heights and family splash zone, Splash Island. In 2012, two attractions debut with WindSeeker, a 301-foot-tall tower swing ride, and Dinosaurs Alive!, an animatronic dinosaur park that features nearly 40 life-sized, roaring, moving dinosaurs. A new light show, Snoopy's Starlight Spectacular, was added in 2011. This giga coaster by Intamin is themed to the late NASCAR driver Dale Ernhardt and represents the largest capital investment to date in the park's history. The park built one of the top steel roller coasters in the world in 2010, Intimidator 305. It is actually been operated more seasons than either the Carousel or Casa Magentica, in that both have been closed at various times for more than one season. They are surpassed only by the Railroad, the Chaparral cars and Casa Magnetica. It was the 13th log flume ride built by Arrow Development. The Log Flume Ride is tied with the Carousel Ride as the fourth oldest attraction in the park. The classic attraction opened at Knott’s Berry Farm in 1969.
